Roadtrip 2021-2022 Winter: Seaside - Yachats - Brookings

Day 31 - Harris Beach - Marine Garden

The boy is back.

There are many things to do at Harris Beach. Only one matters.

At the far end of Harris, there is a rocky scramble over a headland to reach the Marine Garden.

The crest of the run-in.

The Team sizes up the harrowing descent.

In the Archaeologically Sensitive Zone, we find a prototype bolt-action log cannon, seemingly just laid bare by the last high tide. These cannons were in common use along the coast, shooting down multiple invading aircraft during WWII. They were retired when someone got the bright idea to use metal instead of wood for the barrel.

The ocean finds its way into the Marine Garden.

I have this love of optical illusions.

A seaweed extends her fingers into the sand.

Seems like many things are looking remotely tree like these days.

Beyond the rocks, a small family enjoys some playtime/beachtime.

Sheltic take off.

Gull patrol.
